The World Pumpkin Federation every year buys a contract to underwrite their competition held to see if they could grow a record-breaking pumpkin weighing in at 1,000 pounds. One year they took out a contract in August and not at the time they usually do which was April, thus they knew they were going to win as they had almost reached their target when they took out the contract.
