He spent his life making sure bets. Once he dug up a sign post that said 20 miles to Joplin and moved the sign 5 miles closer to town. Later on he went past some of the local gamblers and bet them that the sign was 5 miles out. He also took thousands betting that he could drive a golf ball 500 yards, then teed up overlooking a frozen lake.
Stu Ungar was the greatest gin rummy player, one of the best poker players and also a blackjack player. In 1977, Bob Stupak bet him $100,000 that he couln't count down the last three decks halfway through a six deck shoe. Incredibly he called every card to perfection and stupak had to pay out.
Charles Deville Wells won in 1891 $13,600 at the Monte Carlo Roulette tables. He placed his bet on number fve and won, added his winnings to the original bet and won again and won 5 times in a row and walked out. He bought a yacht in the south of France with his winnings.
